Lisa’s story:

Growing confidence, independence and joy at Treow: Her journey is one of patience, trust, and gentle encouragement.

This is Lisa’s story

When Lisa moved to Treow nine years ago, she was searching for stability, kindness, and a place where she could begin to feel safe again. She arrived with a long history of anxiety and overwhelming emotions, and needed the right level of reassurance and structure to feel settled.

Today, after almost a decade with Precious Homes, Lisa’s transformation is remarkable. Her journey is one of patience, trust, and gentle encouragement — and a powerful example of what person‑centred support can achieve.

A journey from anxiety to confidence

Over the years, Lisa has grown from someone who felt overwhelmed by daily life to a woman who now manages her morning routine, prepares her own breakfast, plans her day with confidence, and enjoys meaningful relationships in and outside Treow.

Her support has reduced gradually from 12 hours per day to 9 hours, reflecting her increased independence and emotional resilience. She remains actively involved in her support planning, with her next review scheduled for May.

I want to say thank you… you’ve helped me become independent.

Staying connected to the people she loves

One of Lisa’s greatest achievements is maintaining regular visits to her parents. She now completes the journey independently, with planning support from staff. Time with her family, the animals they care for, and the peace of rural life give Lisa grounding, purpose, and joy.

Relationships that bring happiness

Lisa has formed a loving relationship with her boyfriend, who visits regularly. Their time together includes watching films, enjoying days out, and spending relaxed time together. Lisa balances independence with companionship, checking in with staff when needed.

She has built local friendships too, enjoying visits to a nearby pub, going shopping, and taking part in small community routines that make her feel connected and valued.

A home where she feels safe and proud

Lisa takes pride in her living space and has even created her own outdoor area decorated with ornaments and a table where she enjoys quiet time. She loves browsing local charity shops, relaxing with films, and planning small personal goals like choosing a name for her new doll.

The team who walk with her

Lisa often expresses gratitude to the staff who have supported her journey. She describes them as responsible, trustworthy, patient and encouraging. Each plays a role in helping her grow in independence, manage worries, and celebrate achievements.

Lisa uses a ‘Snakes and Ladders’ progress tracker and is currently at Level 56 — a milestone she is incredibly proud of.

Looking ahead

Lisa’s journey continues to unfold. Each year she becomes more confident, more secure, and more able to shape her own life. With gentle, consistent support, she is thriving — not just coping — and discovering new strengths every day.
