Miriam’s Mission to Walk the London Underground

This May, Miriam embarked on a mission to walk the length of the London Underground – a total distance of over 400 miles. Seeking sponsorship through her just giving page, Miriam has so far raised more than £2000 for Shelter.

“I have autism and a muscle disability so things can be a bit challenging for me,

but I love walking and I love the underground!”

Miriam moved into Precious Homes’s Oster House at the start of 2021. As part of the transition and care planning process, staff worked with Miriam to explore her goals and aspirations. It was then that this unusual goal came to light.

Ovaise Ilyas, Acting Manager at Oster House supported living service, explains “As Miriam’s support team, our role is to help her to explore and set goals for the future. Miriam got the idea from a book she had read and was determined to do her bit to support homeless people by undertaking this huge challenge. Naturally, we wanted to help her to achieve it!”

To prepare for the challenge, Miriam has been building up her endurance by going for long walks – accompanied by her support team. She’s tracking her progress via her Twitter page, using the handle @Miriam_Walks.

Miriam commented: “I enjoy walking and have decided to walk the London Underground! This means I’ll be walking above ground, following the route of each tube line, passing every single station. I have autism and a muscle disability so things can be a bit challenging for me. Please support me in this adventure and for a great cause – Shelter charity to help homeless people.”
