We’re incredibly proud of Zaynab (aka ZeZe), who lives at one of our supported living services, for her ongoing commitment to fighting for mental health support. A Diana Award recipient in 2000, Zeze has been fighting hard to change mental health provision in Birmingham and beyond over the past few years, using her own story as a catalyst for change.
TED Talk Speaker
Earlier this year, Zeze was invited to give a talk, in conjunction with TedxYouth and Birmingham Hippodrome, on the topic “Insert Future Here”. Zeze used her personal experiences to deliver an articulate and impassioned talk on suicide prevention and personality disorder awareness.
£400,000 raised for Peer Support project
ZeZe has also continued with her ongoing work to support Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB), the mental health support service for children and young people in the city. Most recently, she’s been involved in “Fight for all the Feels”, a new fundraising campaign that was launched on World Mental Health Day in October last year.
The campaign – in which ZeZe is instrumental and has shared her story of accessing mental health support – has so far secured £400,000 and is on track to raise around £1.3 million. The money will be used to fund a Peer Support Worker programme over the next three years. Amazing stuff and a huge well done to ZeZe. Read more about the Fight for all the Feels Campaign here.
