Spotlight on Cherry – Our Award Winning Team Member!
01 Jul 2016
Huge congratulations to Precious Homes’ Support Worker, Cherry Harvey, who was awarded ‘Exceptional Newcomer’ at the Birmingham Care Award Finals this month in recognition of the dedication, commitment and loyalty she gives to individuals across our services in Birmingham.
The Birmingham Care Awards is a regional event in the care industry set up to acknowledge, celebrate and reward excellence in care delivery across the region.
Shortlisted from hundreds of entrants from across the City, Cherry, who works within the Kings Heath Team in Birmingham, was joined by colleagues and other finalists on the 2nd June 2016 at Egbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham for the presentation of the awards. She then scooped the prestigious award, with judges commending her hard work, commitment, compassion and loyalty, specifically in a first time role within the care industry.
“I didn’t even know I had been nominated,” explains Cherry. “So I was delighted when I was invited to attend the awards as a finalist, then when they called my name out I was in complete shock!”
The significance of this award is due to the fact that Cherry is undiagnosed on the Autism Spectrum and admittedly struggles with social interactions.
Applying for the job at Precious Homes was one of these situations, but the recruiting managers recognised strong values, a real person centred ethos and she met all the required criteria. As a result, Cherry was recruited into a permanent position within the King’s Heath Team.
Registered Manager Heidi Hanlon explains: “Cherry has a fantastic connection with the individuals she supports and is very supportive and encouraging – acting as real positive role model. Specifically, for the service users who have low self-esteem and anxiety, she works hard to lift their spirits, offer emotional support and provide just what they seem to require reducing anxiety and building confidence, listening to their views and wishes and advocating for them.”
“I love my job and being able to work with individuals to help build their skills and increase their confidence day in day out is fantastic. I am delighted with the award and want to thank my team for the nomination!”
Greg Lapham, Chief Operating Officer at Precious Homes adds: “Cherry is an excellent example of someone who is new to the care industry but through strong values and ethos has worked hard to understand and commit to the role, and has now found her vocation in life. We are very proud of Cherry and wish her continued success within our team, and with her career in care.”
