Spotlight on Chadwin Road
13 Sep 2016
This month the spotlight is on Chadwin Road – Precious Homes’ supported living plus service in Newham. Here we catch up with Deputy Manager Dan Murphy, four months after the team supported the first individual into the service, to find out what’s been happening!
Newly developed earlier this year, the service has been renovated into 4 flats and a communal living room. Each flat is spacious and specifically designed for individuals with complex needs to live in a supportive environment where choice and control are embedded into everyday practice.
Dan explains: “It’s been a hectic few months but we are starting to see some real successes and the service really coming together, with a second individual moving
into their new flat 6 weeks ago.”
The setup of the service includes each person having their own flat, but with communal living space for the tenants to socialise if they choose to – with this design really benefitting the two tenants at Chadwin Road.
“The two individuals are already socialising. They have watched football matches together in each other’s flats and have made plans to go to the pub to watch an upcoming game which is fantastic!” Dan adds.
The team at Chadwin has increased too, with a new permanent team in place and working within the service.
“Initially team members from nearby service Alnwick Road were transitioned to the service whilst additional recruitment was taking place. We have now recruited a brand new staff team, with three full time support workers and a new Team Leader, in addition to the management team.” Dan explains.
Senior support from Alnwick Road continue to support the service – working with the new team to ensure best practice and approaches are implemented.
“The team are fantastic and there are some really good connections and relationships being developed.” Adds Dan.
The team’s main aim is to support individuals to become significantly more independent and to successfully integrate into the community, finding opportunities and building links locally to help aid this progress.
“The first individual to move into Chadwin Road, has just enrolled at college and is due to start in a few weeks’ time. This is a fantastic achievement for him and we are delighted to be able to see how far he has progressed in such a short space of time.” Dan adds.
Greg Lapham, Chief Operating Officer at Precious Homes adds: “The success of the two transitions are down to the consistent staffing approaches that the management team have ensured over the past few months. I am delighted with the progress that has been made – with both Individuals being supported through a clear pathway enabling them to become significantly more independent.”
Congratulations to the teams at Chadwin and Alnwick for making this new service such a success!
