Up and Running at Elderberry Mews
03 May 2019
In April we saw our first individual, GL, move into her new home at Elderberry Mews – Precious Homes brand new Supported Living Plus service in Birmingham. Registered Manager Anthony Flaherty tells us all about the big move and the next step in his service’s transitions.
The site in Birmingham, previously a 23 bed apartment block which was transformed into two separate services, launched earlier this year. There are two neighbouring services: a 12 bed Supported Living Service (Mulberry Court) and 6 bed Supported Living Plus Service (Elderberry Mews) which both provide innovative and high quality support shaped around individual needs.
Anthony tells us all about GL’s transition into the service, “It’s been a successful first move-in and GL has settled in really well. On her first day she was out shopping with her team and is busy making the new service her home.”
GL’s mum has been fully involved in her transition and a huge support to the team supporting her daughter, ensuring they get to know her likes, dislikes, and are equipped to fully support her needs.
“Our focus is on building a bond between GL and her new team and her mum’s input into how she communicates and how she likes to be supported has been invaluable. We are also receiving input from our internal Speech and Language Therapist who is working with the team to create a communication passport and enhance their knowledge of GL’s communication style in a bespoke way.” Anthony adds.
The team have also supported an individual to move into neighbouring service Mulberry Court and, with three other individuals set to move in over the coming months, it’s a busy but exciting time for the team.
“GL loves to be sociable so, like the team, she is looking forward to the next people moving into the service. We have lots of plans in place for over the summer and can’t wait to organise group activities, enjoy our amazing outdoor space and support the people living here to lead a fantastic life.” Anthony adds.
