Local councillors give thumbs up to new Precious Homes service
28 Apr 2016
Chadwin Road, which supports people with autism, learning disabilities and mental health issues, recently opened its doors after a major renovation project.
During an official open day Councillor Aleen Alarice said she was ‘overwhelmed’ by the quality of the accommodation provided by Precious Homes.
She said: “This is a wonderful project and will do much to reduce the stigma that surrounds people who lead challenging lives.
“Ensuring there is suitable accommodation in the community is vital if we are to break down the barriers that have kept people in institutional organisations for far too long – at Chadwin Road people will be treated as respected human beings.”
The Plaistow South Ward Councillor urged staff at Chadwin Road to build on the success of the neighbouring Alnwick Road facility, which has already earned a strong reputation in the local community.
Councillor Patricia Holland, who also attended the open day on April 8th, praised the design of the new service.
She said: “Chadwin Road is bright with plenty of space, the kitchen and bathrooms are of hotel quality, very modern.
“The lounges and bedrooms are of a nice size too. I wish the new residents the best of luck in their new Precious Homes.”
Chadwin Road balances the opportunity for independence with social integration and development through its mix of personal and communal space.
It is ideal for individuals who are working towards increasing their independence and who would benefit from spending time with others in the service.
