In-house quiz: social interaction and peer support at Precious Homes
13 Jul 2020
Our multi-disciplinary team have been working hard to create a series of engaging and meaningful activities during lockdown. In particular, they wanted to create a series of online opportunities for promoting interaction between the different locations, aimed at reducing social isolation and fostering peer support during this difficult period.
As a result, the Precious Homes In-house quiz was born. Teams are made up of small groups of service users and staff members, who get together every few weeks for a fun quiz. The latest quiz, held on the 9th July, was a great success, with more people joining from Precious Homes services across the country.
Sophie Dyer, PBS assistant at Precious Homes, says: “The teams were poised and ready to take on the challenge. The scores were very good, with very little in it going into the final round. Patrick at Dyers Mews was very focused and determined to win. Bianca and Mylie from Roman house were also focusing on the final result. After a tense tiebreak situation, Roman House took the win, with Dyers Mews awarded very close runners up!”
The quiz isn’t just about winning though. The service users got to interact and spend quality time with each other form the safety of their own homes. Everyone was in good spirits when they left and as you can see from the photos, there were smiles all round.
Helena Piper, Manager at Roman House, commented: “Sophie from our MDT has been absolutely fantastic. As well as organising the quiz, she has been extremely supportive in enabling our service users to participate. We had concerns around the quiz being overstimulating for some of the people we support. Sophie took time to help us prepare this individual by doing practice mini-quizzes and helping her to understand what would happen during the quiz. Sophie has also been great at sending out in house activity ideas during COVID-19, so massive thanks to her.”
