Craig celebrates 50 years of Star Trek
09 Dec 2016
Craig is a huge Star Trek fan and is supported at Precious Homes Ulysses House in Birmingham. When the opportunity arose for him to attend a very special 50th anniversary celebration in October, Craig jumped at the chance to visit the huge Star Trek Convention at the NEC in Birmingham.
Ulysses House is a 6-person residential service in Edgbaston, Birmingham, which supports individuals with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and behaviour which may be described as challenging to achieve personal outcomes, aspirations and life skills.
Raven Bansell, Trainee Deputy Manager, explains: “Craig is a huge fan of Star Trek so when we saw they were hosting a massive 50-year celebration convention in Birmingham we passed over the information to Craig and he was delighted!”
Craig was up bright and early on the day to attend the convention with Support Worker Matt who is also an avid Star Trek fan. They joined fellow Trekkies at the huge celebration at the NEC – meeting cast and crew, exploring interactive exhibits, learning about Star Trek’s impact on science, space and technology and enjoying a host of parties to celebrate the golden anniversary.
“Matt was the perfect choice to go with Craig as they are both huge fans. To share that special interest with someone makes the trip even more special and memorable.” Raven adds.
Support team member matching is crucial for outings and activities like this. The Ulysses Team look at key workers and support team member matching by giving particular consideration to shared experiences, hobbies and interests – one of the key factors in the matching process.
It certainly looks like Craig had a fantastic time – Thank you for sharing these photographs with us!
