Championing best practice at Precious Homes
23 Jul 2020
Precious Homes is proud to be a member of the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BiLD), an organisation which champions the rights of people with disabilities.
BiLD work to develop the skills and culture necessary to understand people’s needs and improve quality of life. As members, we are involved in BiLD’s programme of sharing and embedding best practice, ensuring excellent support and continually improving our practices. As part of this process, the Executive team at Precious Homes will be working with BiLD to develop and improve our Positive Behaviour Support strategy, which is central to the way that we support our service users.
Our BiLD membership gives our employees access to high-quality training and development opportunities. BiLD’s approach applies a rigorous evidence base, broad expertise and long-standing experience to share knowledge, expertise and best practice which will bring about lasting change.
As a BiLD member, we subscribe to their values, which include:
We champion rights
Championing human rights is at the heart of all of our work. We enable, support and empower people to live the life they choose.
We build positive impact together
We measure our success by the positive impact we have on people’s lives. By sharing skills and knowledge, tackling difficult issues and building effective and trusting relationships.
We find and enable solutions
We work to understand people’s needs and priorities to get the best outcomes for them. We work across systems to bring about lasting change.
We balance evidence, expertise and experience
Our approach is underpinned by a rigorous evidence base and expertise. We use our long-standing experience to translate policy into practice.
Rachel Murphy, Director of Quality and Risk Management at Precious Homes, explains:
“BiLD play a crucial role in raising awareness, championing rights and sharing experiences and good practice across their membership groups. As a company which is very much focussed on putting the rights and well-being of the individual at the centre of our approach, we’re keen to share successes and learning opportunities in order to continually improve what we do here at Precious Homes. In particular, we’re working with BiLD to reinforce and formalise our Positive Behaviour Support strategy, which is key to our goal of improving quality of life and independence for the people we support.”
