Vela Domus provides specialist community-based step-down and rehabilitation supported living services located in the London borough of Newham.
The Service is designed for individuals with challenging behaviour who are currently resident in more secure settings or in less structured placements and who require a period of intensive support within a safe, supportive environment.
This specialist supported living model offers service users the opportunity to reside in their own flat, but with the safety net of twenty four hour staff support.
The service operates a risk management and prevention of relapse model of support. The establishment of a supportive therapeutic relationship with each service user is seen as an essential component to the development of new coping strategies and a positive sense of self.
In order to support these therapeutic programmes, staff to service user ratios are high. This level of staffing also facilitates community access, as indicated by individualised care plans and risk assessments.
