60 seconds with… Stephen Denman
28 Sep 2015
Stephen, 52, has lived at 75 The Avenue since November 2014, he tells us about his love of running and reflects on his progress over the last year.
What’s it like living at 75 The Avenue?
I receive support with cooking, shopping and going to appointments. I’ve made a lot of progress, I now know how to manage when I get frustrated and I know that there are staff here to support me.
Since moving here I’ve made lots of new friends, both within the project and outside. Everyone is very friendly. I feel more confident and I feel more settled here.
I like running, especially marathons or big races. I like taking part and getting medals when you complete the race.
What are your wishes for the future?
I want to try and exercise everyday down the park and I’ve thought about joining a running club.
I’d like to do another marathon and more 5k runs. I really enjoy taking part – whether I run or walk it’s still good fun.
In the future I’d like to get a job and become more independent. I’ve looked into cleaning jobs and this is something that I think I would enjoy.
What our managers say…
“Stephen has really developed since moving to 75 The Avenue. He has taken on board a lot of the advice and has made good progress. His independence is increasing and he is doing more and more for himself. He should be really proud of what he has achieved and over the next year I’m looking forward to seeing him continue with his running, perhaps get a job and continue to make new friends.”
Maxim Karin, Acting Manager.
